THE RAT IN THE CORNER
Vladimir Putin lies to gain advantage and he promises anything then changes his mind. He will betray anyone and anything. He denies and deflects everything no matter how obvious the lies are. The puppies follow the dog that barks loudest. He accuses his enemies of carrying out his crimes. He cares nothing about integrity or honesty they are meaningless concepts to him. He only cares about defeating his opponents and the methods are only valued by their effectiveness. He murders his political opponents.
People think that discrediting Putin matters to Putin - it doesn't. They think that public opinion matters to Putin it doesn't. What hurts Putin is anything that undermines his status and power base (Navalny).
His army has lost its credibility, his economy is collapsing and he keeps his closest confidants at a distance. Paranoia is setting in. He has already lost but he hasn't realised it yet.
Where does he go now? He doesn't know - and no one dare tell him. He can't win his war, he can't renew his economy, he can't control the internet. He is a rat in a corner, he must lash out - or - the world can gives him a pass. Diplomats need to ascertain what that pass needs to be and how to persuade him to take it.
Perhaps Napoleon would like a holiday on St Helena?
